A resident agent is a person who is authorized to represent a corporation or other business entity in the state where it is incorporated or registered. The agent may be an employee of the company, or a third-party contractor. The resident agent must have a physical address in the state and be available during normal business hours. The agent’s primary duty is to receive service of process on behalf of the company. This includes legal documents such as summonses, complaints, and subpoenas.
