Statutes

Statutes are generally created by legislatures through the enactment of legislation. They are often codified, or collected and organized, into code books which contain all of the laws of a jurisdiction. Statutes may also be found in other sources, such as court opinions, treaties, and executive orders.

A statute is a written law enacted by a legislature on behalf of the sovereign. Statutes may codify, or collect and organize, the law of a jurisdiction.
